I just moved to SLT in l8 December and would like to meet new people. I have been to the requium a couple time but it seems they are very clicky there and not into new people. Where should I go to meet new people who dont care who you are or where you are from? Im more of an industrial guy in my mid 30's, single and with a good job. I still like to dance but im not much of a club go'er anymore... mabey if I knew more toons I would but well ya know it rather bouring when yr there alone. So any tips on where to go would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks your new member Grenalis

Hey there, Grenalis!

DJ Skeletal here from Requiem/Rapture. I think for a lot of us, it was tough to get to know people unless you already had a friend who frequented the clubs. Back when I started going out, we used to have other outlets like the coffee shops where it seemed all the Goth/Industrial types were hanging out. There are other places where the non-specific "alternative" locals hang out - mostly bars, mind you - like CBGB's and Mangia on South Grand, or the Jade Room in the back of MeKong Restaurant (they're all within a strip of two blocks). DJ Salem and Sub Rosa also run a very small night on the third Tuesday of the month called HEX that takes place at the Upstairs Lounge (also above Mekong), which also used to be the home of Rapture, 'til I moved it to Dante's. I guess the thing to do is to hit up some people on the various outlets, like Myspace or the St. Louis Goths Yahoo Group.

As for the clique-ishness, I fear that's always going to be part of any subculture or hangout, whether it's Goth, Punk, Rockabilly, or anything else. I've seen it in all scenes. Don't judge the whole by a few individuals, though. I think you'll find that there are a number of friendly people this scene. You just have to approach them or be approached!

Thanks Mnag for responding. I did meet you @ Rapture while you were DJing. Im the fool that moved from Michigan for work. I used to be a club goer but not so much that I now have a DWI on my books so its not really fun anymore to go out and not drink. If i knew someone it may be for then ide have a DD. The only coffee shop ive found that wasnt a bloddy starbuscks is Wired near south county on Lindberg. Where would you suggest I take a gander @.
